Initial Preparation:
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Before proceeding, it's essential to prepare the surface properly to ensure maximum bonding. If there’s a layer of old, faded paint dust, it must firstly be thoroughly polished away. To check, wipe your finger over the area where the backing plate will be mounted. If you see paint residue on your finger, it indicates that you need to remove the dust residue. Once the surface is thoroughly clean, follow the steps below.
-
Polish the surface where the attachments will be locate. This must be polished clean first to prepare the surface for a secure mounting.
-
Use Isopropyl Alcohol to properly clean any residue left from the polished surface area before mounting.
(Both polish and alcohol can be purchased from the store if required. - Do Not use oil based products to clean surface i.e. Methylated spirts or mineral turpentine etc as that will compromise the surface integrity.
Mounting Note: After manually mounting the attachment hooks using firm hand pressure, the mounting plate should be checked to ensure it is fully sealed against the door. If additional pressure is required, Multi or Vise Grips, or a similar hand tool may be used to apply extra leverage and help achieve full contact for optimal tape adhesion.
To date, all Shadewing installations have been successfully completed using hand pressure alone. The use of hand tools is simply an optional method of applying leverage where required.
